How busy have the Colonels been? They started the season July 29. A little more than a month later, they had 15 matches or tournaments under their belts with a pair of tournament wins and four third-place finishes. They took first at the Catholic Cup at Hickory Sticks and the Cooper Classic at Boone Links on back-to-back days, shooting a season-low team score of 296 at the Catholic Cup.
The Colonels are three-time regional runners-up seeking their first crown since 2012. They have won the region 37 times since 1964. Their leader is Flesch, a senior who's yet to play on a regional winner. He carries a team-leading 18-hole stroke average near 75, followed closely by juniors Paul Thelen and Tyler Chandler, both around 76.

Break? The golfers might differ. The Colonels stage a pressure-packed varsity vs. varsity practice Tuesday when competition will be just as tough as most matches with potentially some precious top-five spots on the line.
CovCath shot 299 while placing third in stroke play and second in match play at the ninth annual Kentucky Cup, a two-day event hosted by Lexington Christian Academy at University Club.
CovCath is so deep that 2015 stalwarts Neal Schroer, the regional tournament individual runner-up, and Patrick Kennedy, tied for third on the Colonels in regional scoring, are getting upstaged to this point. Schroer has a history of performing well late in the season. He's one of four seniors. Kennedy is one of six sophomores. There are seven juniors.
