The following are the Northern Kentucky baseball all stars for the Cincinnati Enquirer and Community Recorder weeklies.
Cincinnati Enquirer
Players of the Year
Jake Ziegelmeyer, Ryle:
The senior hit .321 with 10 doubles, 31 RBI, and a team-high five home runs. On the mound, he finished 6-1 with a 0.92 ERA and 38 strikeouts compared to seven walks over 38 innings of work. He's committed to play at Morehead State and was named first-team all-state and an NKBCA AA All-Star selection.
Kyle Rowe, Beechwood: The senior hit .454 and led Northern Kentucky with nine home runs while driving in 55. He also stood out as one of the top defensive players in the area. He was named second-team all-state and an NKBCA A All-Star selection.
Briley Seiter, Bellevue: Senior helped the Tigers to a 4-2 record and No.2 seed in the regular season in the 36th District. Has committed to play at Eastern Nazarene University.
Coach of the Year
Scott Schweitzer, Campbell County: Led the Camels to their first regional title in 27 years and a state championship appearance, which marked the farthest any team had reached in school history. The Camels finished their historic season with a 29-11 record.
First team
Jake Ziegelmeyer, Ryle: Co-player of the year.
Briley Seiter, Bellevue: Co-player of the year
Nathan Roe, Ryle: The senior hit .398 with a .500 on-base percentage and a .519 slugging percentage while adding a team-high 13 doubles and 38 RBI to go with 34 runs scored and 17 stolen bases. He was named to the Northern Kentucky Baseball Coaches Association AA All-Star team.
Colton Hartig, Campbell County: The junior hit .337 with eight doubles and 30 runs scored while helping lead the Camels to a state runner-up finish. On the mound, he was 6-4 with a 2.28 ERA. He was named honorable mention all-state and an NKBCA AA All-Star.
Brayden Combs, Beechwood: The senior hit .345 with seven homers and 31 RBI. He is committed to play at Kentucky and was named first-team all-state and an NKBCA A All-Star.
Ethan Stringer, Beechwood: The senior hit .472 with a .544 on-base percentage while hitting three homers, driving in 25 runs, and stealing 16 bases. He's committed to Louisville and was named first-team all-state and an NKBCA A All-Star.
Cory Franzen, Campbell County: The junior led the Camels with a .374 batting average to go with three triples, two homers, 26 RBI, and 15 stolen bases. He was named third-team all-state and an NKBCA AA All-Star.
Kori Embs, Bishop Brossart: The senior hit for a .462 average with 13 doubles, two triples, three homers and 27 RBI. He was a third-team all-state selection and named to the NKBCA's A All-Star team.
Will Heppler, Covington Catholic: The senior finished with a team-leading .466 batting average and .648 slugging percentage while hitting 10 doubles, two homers and driving in 26 runs. He was named to the NKBCA's AA All-Star team.
A senior, Franzen was 12-3 on the mound with a 1.70 ERA. He struck out 117 batters and walked 33 over 103 2/3 innings of work, including 15 2/3 innings of shutout baseball in the state tournament. He's committed to Kentucky Wesleyan and was named an NKAC Division I All-Star.
Griffin Smallwood, Dixie Heights: The senior posted a 5-2 record and a 1.56 ERA over 49 1/3 innings of work while striking out 83 and walking 17. He also batted .407 and was named an NKBCA AA All-Star.
Jeffrey Purnell, Boone County: The senior is committed to Morehead State and was named third-team all-state and an NKAC Division I All-Star.
Ricky Raisor, Highlands: The senior went 6-5 on the mound with a 2.91 ERA and 68 strikeouts. He's committed to play at John Logan College and was named a Northern Kentucky Athletic Conference Division II All-Star.
Second team
Kyle Rust, Highlands: The junior batted .314 and stole a team-high 12 bases. On defense, his presence behind the plate helped the Bluebirds' pitching staff hold opponents to just one run over five district and regional tournament games.
Mark Walkenhorst, Highlands: The senior anchored the middle of the Bluebirds' lineup by batting .393 with 29 RBI and was named an NKBCA A All-Star.
Spencer Pangallo, Newport Central Catholic: The junior is a three-year starter that batted .358 and led a rebuilding NewCath team on defense. He was named an NKBCA A All-Star.
Jake Ohmer, Scott: In addition to being a slick fielder, the junior hit .333 with a .545 slugging percentage as he collected more extra-base hits than singles and was named honorable mention all-state and an NKAC Division I All-Star. He was 5-3 with a 1.98 ERA on the mound.
Ben France, Covington Catholic: The junior hit .345 with a .518 slugging percentage, three homers, and a team-leading 29 RBI. He was named to the NKBCA's AA All-Star team.
Trey Bowden, Highlands: The junior was a spark plug for the Bluebirds' on offense and defense while batting .380 with three triples, a homer, and 30 runs scored.
Ryan McGinnis, Covington Catholic:
Brett Slusher, Beechwood: The senior hit .428 with a .535 on-base percentage, two home runs, and 18 stolen bases. He's headed to Morehead State to play football and was named an NKAC Division II All-Star as well as the Enquirer's Male Athlete of the Year.
Connor Walsh, Campbell County: The senior batted .370 with 15 doubles, a triple, a homer, and 30 RBI, in addition to scoring 34 runs for the state runner-up
Andrew Trame, Scott: The senior went 6-3 with a 2.00 ERA while striking out 49 and walking 12. He had a 33-inning scoreless stretch in which he threw a one-hitter against George Rogers Clark and three-hitters against Highlands and Mason County. He was named honorable mention all-state.
Zach Friend, Cooper: The senior took the mound in Cooper's biggest games of the year and built a reputation as one of the hardest throwers in the area. He is committed to play at Florida Gulf Coast.
Collin Johnson, St. Henry: The senior was 8-3 on the mound with a 2.95 ERA and was named an NKBCA A All-Star. He hit .431 at the plate with 30 RBI.
Drew Borman, Conner: The senior went 8-2 with a 1.20 ERA while striking out 50 and walking 14 over 58 1/3 innings. He's committed to Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology.
Kyle Fieger, Beechwood: The senior went 7-2 with a 1.45 ERA and 54 strikeouts over 68 innings of work. He's committed to Georgetown College and was named an NKBCA A All-Star.
Ethan Doty, Highlands: The junior led the Bluebirds with 63 2/3 innings on the mound while going 5-5 with a 2.67 ERA and 101 strikeouts. He was named an NKAC Division II All-Star.
