Covington Catholic's three robotics teams (RoboColonels, ColonelBotics, and HouseCats) competed in their final regular season tournament at Owen County High School. The ColonelBotics finished 3rd overall out of 64 teams in regulation play. The RoboColonels finished 16th and the HouseCats finished 31st. The ColonelBotics and RoboColonels were selected to play with each other in an alliance as a second seed in the tournament. They won a very close but high scoring two out of three games in the quarterfinals. But lost two very tough, but competitive games in the semifinals to the tournament champion.
The RoboColonels were awarded the Design Award. This is the second highest award of the day and earns them an automatic berth at State in 2 weeks. The RoboColonels consist of seniors Josh Hildreth and Justin Gallagher and sophomores Danny Ballow, Whit Hammond, and Tyler MacKnight. Attached is a picture of Danny and Whit with their award.
The other two teams may still earn state berths by their scores in Skills Competitions over the course of the season. We will know later this week.
Kentucky may send up to 10 teams to the VEX World Robotics Competition in April. That is our goal, but it is going to be challenging.
I am very proud of what these 28 guys have done. Thanks for supporting us and let's pray we can roll onto Worlds.
