On April 25, 2013, Covington Catholic High School announced the establishment of the Elmer B. and Ruth C. Maschinot Cleves Scholarship to benefit the school’s tuition assistance program.

A 1944 graduate of Covington Catholic, Elmer Cleves excelled both in the classroom and in athletics. After graduation, he played professional baseball in the Canadian League as a catcher and went on to manage minor league teams in the U.S. After leaving baseball, Mr. Cleves worked in chemical engineering ultimately starting his own company, Interlube Corporation, in 1969. Interlube is an international distributor and manufacturer of industrial specialty lubricants and cleaners.

The scholarship is named after Mr. Cleves and his wife of fifty-five years, Ruth Maschinot Cleves. Mr. Cleves also established a scholarship at Notre Dame Academy in Park Hills two years ago at the passing of his wife, a Notre Dame Academy graduate.
